You could tell by the line of parked cars extending half a kilometre from Highway 7 to W&T Mushrooms on the 6th Line that the first annual garage sale, a fundraiser for the Concerned Residents Coalition was hopping. At the time of writing, the sale had netted almost $5,000, and late purchases are yet to be tallied.
The sale took place next door to the proposed site of the Hidden Quarry on the 6th Line of Eramosa. The treed rural road is classified as a cultural heritage landscape and it was at its springtime best on Saturday, bursting with blooming lilac and honeysuckle, organizers report.
CRC members and others donated goods for the sale.
Sale organizers Alix Mabee and Leanne Girardi have arranged that items left unsold will be donated to the Elora Festival Book Sale, Rockwood’s EWAG, Waste Wise in Georgetown and Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Guelph.
“The tremendous support for this first annual garage sale shows how deeply the issue of the proposed Hidden Quarry penetrates and rallies the community surrounding the site – and beyond,” said Alix Mabee.
Leanne Girardi added, “We want to thank all those who donated, volunteered, set up, cleaned up, drove, baked, planted, shovelled etc. with such energy and enthusiasm.”
The CRC’s next fund-raiser is “9 and Dine for $99”, a golf tournament to be held at Turtle Creek Golf Club on Friday, June 20. For more information, contact Gail Stevens at 519-856—8227, gailsusanstevens@gmail.com.
