County lets contract for Elora library work

County council has let the contract for renovation work at the Elora library.

 

Dakon Construction Ltd., of Waterloo, won the work with the low bid of $714,050.

Manager of purchasing and risk Mark Bolzon said in his report to the county’s administration, finance, and personnel committee that Kakon was the lowest of six bidders, with the highest at $886,000. All the bids include taxes..

Bolzon noted, “In addition to the tendered prices received, the County of Wellington has pre-purchased the elevator and the components in order to meet the construction schedule. The elevator was purchased at the price of $105,200, inclusive of the PST at 8% and exclusive of the GST at 5%.”

The elevator and other work on the building will make it barrier free, including access to the washrooms. The work will also include upgrades to the electrical and mechanical systems, excavating the basement, and removal of a termite infestation. Exterior work includes paving, site drainage, and landscaping.

The library will be expanded to two floors, and an additional 1,600 square feet will be added. The construction budget came in just under the initial estimate of $727,000. The total amount of the project will be about $1.15-million.
