The proposed OPP station for Teviotdale has been designated a secondary emergency operations centre for Wellington County.

Police Services Board chairman Lynda White told county council on April 26 that there is already an emergency operations centre located in Guelph that can cover the southern part of the county, and it is therefore a good move to have a place to provide for the northern part of the county.

Councillor Gary Williamson noted that all the municipalities have primary and secondary places for their emergency operations and wondered where the second one is for the OPP.

White said the secondary station is currently in Palmerston, but with the county building a new police station in Teviotdale, the board felt it was best to build an emergency operations centre into the new detachment.

Council unanimously supported the recommendation.
