Councillor Ron Hallman dead at 75

Centre Wellington Township Councillor Ron Hallman is dead.

Hallman, 75, died at Caressant Care in Fergus on Aug. 27. The Ward 6 councillor was completing his second term.

Hallman and his wife, Shirley, came to Fergus in 1962 and owned and operated Hallman’s Family Shoes for 30 years. He participated in the community for many years as a school board trustee, in the Fergus Lions Club, Fergus Rotary Club, as a director for the Centre Wellington Hydro, as well as serving on township council for seven years.

Hallman had been ill for several months, but he missed only a handful of council and committee meetings.

Flags were flown at half mast over the weekend at the municipal centre as a mark of respect.

A Lions service was held on Aug. 31. A funeral service was held at Melville United Church on Sept. 1. Remembrances to the Parkinsons Society (Shy-Drager) or Groves Memorial Hospital are appreciated by the family. Cards available at the funeral home.

The township website stated, “Councillor Hallman was a vital part of Centre Wellington council and faithfully served his community well in so many ways.

“He will be deeply missed. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Mrs. Shirley Hallman and her family, as they go through this difficult time of loss.”
