Council defers decision on director term

A Wellington North councillor wants Wellington North Power to reconsider the terms of directors on its board.

Councillor Dan Yake raised the issue at council’s May 6 meeting after a report from the interview committee looking to bring on two new board members recommended the director term be changed from two to four years.

Councillor Sherry Burke told council the change was based on a suggestion from Wellington North Power CEO Judy Rosebrugh to switch to a four-year term that would allow directors to get a better “grasp” of issues and how the utility functions.

“What’s the rationale of these positions going from two years to four years when these positions have been two years for the past 14 years?” Yake asked.

Council approved the hiring committee recommendation of Pieter de Josselin de Jong and Alan Rawlins, but deferred a decision on the length of the term.
