“Is the cost of asphalt still dropping?” wondered deputy mayor Terry Fisk. “This is less than half what we budgeted for.”

Road and drainage superintendant Mike McIsaac said budgeted prices were based on information received from an engineering firm and may have included a double lift of asphalt, whereas only a single lift is being applied.

“These are just asphalt replacements, there’s no other work that needs to be done,” said McIsaac.

Public Works Director Brian Hansen said more streets were included during budgeting, while others eliminated because future water or sewer lines might be needed.

Mayor George Bridge said, “We’re trying to match up now with our infrastructure underground and our paving. We want to make sure we’re not putting asphalt down that we have to rip up.”
