Construction slow in Minto for first quarter

Construction activity in the town of Minto is down in the early part of 2013, compared to the same period last year.

In a report at the March 5 Minto council meeting, chief building official Terry Kuipers noted  11 permits were issued, compared to 19 in January and February of 2012.

Construction value of permits issued for the first two months of 2013 was  $400,000, down from $1.57 million last year. Single family dwellings account for the bulk of the difference, with no permits issued for this type of construction in 2013, compared to four permits for construction valued at $775,000 last year.

One area that did show an increase was additions and renovations to residential properties, with five permits worth $257,000 issued so far this year, compared to three permits for construction valued at $82,000 last year.
