Community mourns teenager killed in crash last week
CENTRE WELLINGTON – A memorial was held this week for 18-year-old Kristie-Lee Leighton of Fergus, who died suddenly in a crash here last week.
On Nov. 23 at about 8:56pm emergency crews responded to collision involving two motor vehicles on Wellington Road 18 at the 4th Line of Centre Wellington Township.
A 2008 Ford Fusion was travelling westbound when it was hit head-on by a 2016 Freightliner transport truck.
Leighton, the driver and lone occupant of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old man from Chatham, was not injured.
A memorial/visitation for Leighton was held at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus on Nov. 29.
Donations in her memory can be made to the arts department at Centre Wellington District High School.
