Centre Wellington-Fergus Optimists sponsor essay contest

The Optimist Club of Centre Wellington- Fergus is encouraging area students to contemplate the theme How can I help my friends realize their value as part of the Optimist International essay contest for 2013.

Club officials believe young people today have a whole new set of ideas and goals and are really excited about their futures. The club says those young people look forward to not only achieving their own goals but to watching their friends achieve their own goals too.

Club officials say it is their goal to help young students reach their full potential.

The club will judge the local students’ essays (700 to 800 words), based on the theme and determine the top winners.

Those will receive awards and the winning essays will be sent to the district level. College scholarships are available for the top winners at the district level.

The Optimist Club has been active in the community since 2005.

Students wishing to participate in the essay contest can find out more by contacting the club at 519-787-0298. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 1 at 6pm.

Carrying the motto “Bringing Out the Best in Kids,” the Optimists conduct positive service projects throughout the community. To learn more visit the organization’s website at www.optimist.org.
