Centre Wellington approves fire station tender

ELORA – A $300,000 addition and renovation at the Elora Fire Station should be completed by spring.

On Nov. 25 Centre Wellington council approved a $305,000 tender, excluding contingency and HST, for Domm Construction Ltd. to complete a 720-square-foot addition and a 873ft2 renovation.

The purpose is to improve accessibility, upgrade washrooms and create a separate room for bunker gear (a health and safety matter).

“It will be good to see this project get going,” said Mayor Kelly Linton.

Eight general contractors submitted bids.

Domm Construction Ltd. came in with the lowest bid at $305,000. However, there’s a $37,698 shortfall in the total budget cost of about $433,698 (including HST) compared to the approved budget of $395,000.

Because the project is 75% covered by development charges, treasurer Dan Wilson said $28,274 of the overage would be covered by development charges and $9,424 would be funded through general capital reserves.

The other bids came in as follows:

– Paulsan Construction Inc.: $388,000;

– Dakon Construction Ltd.: $394,500;

– SPEC Construction Inc.: $433,000;

– TRP Construction General Contractors: $488,000;

– Koler Construction Inc.: $513,982;

– CRD Construction Ltd.: $553,000; and

– Anacond Contracting Inc.: $554,666.

Council approved the Domm Construction Ltd. bid for the project, which is expected to be completed in April.
