Irma DeVries owns a farming business in Minto and is a small-scale producer of hydro-electricity.
As a grandparent she is interested in the future of her grandchildren. Married to John for 36 years she believes that the stability of the family is paramount to future generations and she is concerned with the social experiments regarding family issues foisted on our children.
“Politics affects every area of your participation in society from education to business, family and community,” says DeVries. “Here in Perth-Wellington, obviously we need to look at policy on agri-foods and farming, but [issues like] wind turbines and disposal of nuclear waste are also important here. Being a farmer and a green energy producer, I’ve got a lot of experience with these issues.”
DeVries says she’s running again for the FCP because of its stand on life and family and smaller government.
“They make sense to me,” says DeVries, referring to the policies of the Party. “They’re not complicated or confusing, just sensible. Valuing life, valuing family, and actually taking steps towards smaller government. I think that’s the way to go.”
FCP Constituency Association President Patrick Bannon said, “Irma and the Family Coalition Party are bringing fresh thinking to the political landscape. The three mainstream parties are the same except for their colours. Irma brings credibility and experience in many areas … We could not ask for a more qualified and caring representative to send to Queens Park.”
Irma has run for provincial election in 2007 and 2011, and in numerous federal elections with the Christian Heritage Party.
