Canadian Blood Services, workers reach tentative deal

Ontario blood service workers narrowly avoided a strike, reaching a last-minute tentative deal with Canadian Blood Services on Jan. 8.

OPSEU president Warren “Smokey” Thomas said, “both parties came away quite happy, and when both sides come away in a win-win, it’s great for the consumers … and the people that work there.”

Chief CBS supply chain officer Ian Mumford said in a statement, “The tentative agreement demonstrates CBS’ commitment to … the reliability and safety of Canada’s blood system.”

At press time the ratification process was underway.
