Boy falls nine metres off cliff

At press time a seven-year-old boy remained in stable condition following a fall off a cliff at the Rockwood Conservation Area last weekend.

On Sept. 6 at about 4:48pm Wellington County OPP officers, along with the Guelph-Eramosa Fire Department and Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services, responded to a call at the Grand River Conservation Authority in Rockwood.

Police say a seven-year-old boy was playing with his younger brother on a rock cliff when he lost his footing and slid off the rock facing, falling about nine metres (30 feet) and landing on a gravel path below.

The child was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and subsequently transferred to a Hamilton Hospital in critical condition.

As of Sept. 9, the boy was in stable condition. Foul play is not suspected.
