Birmingham Retirement Community announces Senior Citizen of the Year Award and dinner

Birmingham Retirement Community wants to honour our seniors of Mount Forest, and surrounding area with a Senior Citizen of the Year Award.  The awards ceremony and dinner will be held at Birmingham Retirement Community.

Leading up to that event will be an invitation to service clubs, organizations, churches and individuals to nominate someone they feel deserving of this title.  The criteria for nomination will be:

– Someone 65 years and older who is a resident of Mount Forest, Kenilworth or Holstein;

– Has had an impact on their community and;

– Volunteers their time and talents for community betterment.

Although there are citizen of the year awards decided upon by the Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Retirement Community thinks that it is important to acknowledge the influence of our senior population on our community and what better time to do that but in June – National Seniors Month.

Nomination forms will be sent to the various service groups and churches within the next few weeks.  They can also be picked up at Birmingham Retirement, 356 Birmingham St. E. between 9am and 5pm.

Deadline for sending in a nomination will be May 8 in order to give the award panel time to decide who best embodies today’s active seniors and to send out invitations.

The panel will be made up of Birmingham residents and staff.

The top five nominees and their nominators will be invited to a presentation dinner to be held on June 10.
