Avalon Specialized Foster Care seeks parents in Guelph and Wellington

In February of last year a story ran about Avalon Specialized Foster Care and their need for foster parents in the Guelph and Wellington area.

There was a positive response from the local community and a number of foster parents were recruited. However the need for families willing to open their homes to foster a child remains.

One family that has started the screening process was Marilyn and Chris Wever. Marilyn and Chris have raised their own children but felt that they still had a lot to offer a child. They decided to explore the possibility of becoming foster parents and this led them to Avalon. The first contact was program manager Rob Holtam. Holtam met with them to explain the hiring and screening process and provided information on the program.

Formal interviews were completed with program manager, resource supervisor and directors of the agency. At this point a decision was made as to whether they would be suitable candidates. Next, administrative requirements are completed. These include a police check, medical, home assessment, home study and character references. In addition, Avalon provides thorough, comprehensive orientation training.

Avalon recognizes and embraces diverse communities. They strive to create foster homes that represent this diversity. To be a foster parent you can be a lone parent or family and we welcome applications from all backgrounds.
