Accountant Matthew Venne congratulated Guelph-Eramosa staff recently for a smooth audit process this year.

On June 3 Venne, of RLB Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors in Guelph, presented council with the township’s 2013 draft audit.

He noted Guelph-Eramosa was the first of 11 municipalities served by his firm to have its audit completed.

In general, Venne said the township has done well to replace aging infrastructure and add new infrastructure, all while ensuring the township has reasonable reserves built up.

Venne did note the municipality’s long-term debt nearly doubled in 2012 - from just under $3.66 million to almost $6.3 million - due to a $3.1-million debenture last year for an office expansion in Brucedale, the reconstruction of Jones Baseline and the paving of a portion of Sideroad 20.

But overall, Venne said he saw nothing of great concern in the township’s finances.

Other than some negative comments about provincial reporting requirements and the resulting financial statements that can be very confusing, councillors also seemed to be generally pleased with the 2013 audit, which they unanimously approved.
