Arrests made following unspecified 'threats' to Guelph high school
Police, school mum on details after John F. Ross closed on Thursday
GUELPH – Students and parents have been left to worry and wonder, as police and school officials won't yet say what led to the closure of John F. Ross CVI high school on Thursday morning.
Parents received a letter from school principal Chad Warren just after 7am on Feb. 12 that provided few details about a "threat against the school."
He told parents "the school was placed in hold and secure early this morning as a precaution," and "based on police direction," the school would be remain closed to students and staff.
"This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our school community," Warren stated.
At around 10:30am Guelph Police issued a press release stating arrests had been made in connection with the "threats."
"The involved parties have been arrested and there is no further threat to the school or community," police stated in the release.
Guelph Police spokesperson Scott Tracey did not answer Advertiser questions about the the timing, nature and source of the threats.
"We’ll be sending out more later today once the investigation unfolds," Tracey stated in an email.
