Alma Optimist Club hosts annual Toy Show and Sale on March 10

ALMA – Alma Optimists Club members are busy preparing for this weekend’s toy show and sale.

The annual event will be held March 10 from 10am to 3pm at the Alma Community Centre, located at 51 Simpson Street East.

This year’s show will feature 30 exhibitors, with  six new ones.

The show will offer a mix of young exhibitors with newer toys and veteran collectors with unique items, noted Nick Grose, Alma Optimist Club vice president and Toy Show chair.

“Carpet farming is popular activity for kids, both farm and non-farm,” said Grose.

“Some kids collect miniature versions of the tractors and implements that are on their family  farm. Some adults like to collect toy versions of their farm implements and tractors too.

“Toy creators and collectors of all ages will displaying diecast toys, trucks, tractors- there’s always a strong emphasis on tractors but there are lots of other toys as well.”

There will be some hand-crafted life-like models, and dioramas, toys for display and toys for sale.

Prices range from a few dollars to several hundred for the collector editions or handmade creations.

Proceeds from the day will go to support youth activities run by the Alma Optimist Club.

The local Guides and Brownies will be operating a food booth serving pea-meal bacon on a bun, hot dogs and egg salad sandwiches.

Proceeds from the food booth will support activities for local Girl Guides, Brownies, and Sparks.

Officials say the show will be “a great family outing for the start of March break.”
