A year-end barbecue at the community hall here was held Sept. 6 to celebrate the successes of local minor softball teams.

Several girls' teams won Intercounty championships: atom, and peewee and the bantams were runnersup.

Other teams had respectable showings in league and playoff games.

Special honours were presented to coach Jim DeBock for his involvement with Alma Minor Ball Association for 30 years. DeBock was honoured for his commitment and excellence with teaching T-ball players the necessary skills to play softball, which includes team building and cooperation.

The Tim Hahn award was presented to Scott Northfield, president of Alma Minor Ball Association, in recognition of his dedication to improvement of minor ball.

The association thanked its many community supporters: Alma Optimists for the T-ball shirts and the new pitching machine; The Ostic Group, Geddes Garage of Alma, Husky Farm Equipment, Post Farm Structures, Goodyear Crane Ltd., Ken Van Milligen Construction, Ron Watt Construction, Lloyd Scott Enterprises, Buehler Automotive & Transmission Inc., and Skerritt Excavating for contributing to a much needed overhaul of the boys’ uniforms.

The association also thanked all the coaches and parents for making the 2008 season successful.
