Advertiser receives national award, recognition

FERGUS – The Wellington Advertiser is now a national award-winning newspaper.

The Advertiser recently received notification that it won the 2018 Best Editorial Page (circulation over 25,000) award at News Media Canada’s Canadian Community Newspaper Awards.

The newspaper beat out runner up Northern Life from Sudbury and third place finisher the Kitchener Post.

“We are very excited to receive this national recognition, especially considering entries in our class are large newspapers from major urban centres across the country,” said Advertiser editor Chris Daponte.

“We would like to thank our columnists and loyal readers, particularly those who take the time each week to write timely and thoughtful letters.

“While some newspapers struggle with a lack of letters and feedback, the Advertiser is in the envious position of having thousands of engaged and caring readers who regularly provide more letters than our editorial pages can handle. This award is as much about them as it is about the efforts of our editorial staff – and we are extremely grateful.”

The Advertiser also received second place in the Best Holiday Edition category (circulation over 10,000)for its Canada 150 broadsheet feature published on May 26, 2017.

“We are proud to have this supplement recognized by News Media Canada,” Daponte said.

“It represents weeks of hard work and planning on behalf of our staff and was a fitting tribute to an important milestone, to the local people that helped build this great nation, and to the historians that documented those contributions. “I’m sure it will be a great keepsake for many Wellington residents.”
