WAGNER, Edith Lydia (nee Jess) January 7, 1935 – November 9, 2017 – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear and cherished Mom and Oma, Edith Lydia Wagner (nee Jess) of Minto Township. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Heinz, her daughter Anne, her parents, Lydia (Meier) and Ernest Jess, her brother Sigismund (Bramsche, Germany) and sister Lilly Hoefner (Toronto). Edith was a loving mother to Karen, Rosemary (Sandeep) and Julie. She was an affectionate and devoted Oma to Ashwin, Maya and Sophia. Fondly remembered by her sister Anita and brother Siegfried, their extended families and many family friends. Edith was born with a sense of adventure and caring for others. She attended the nursing school at the University of Goettingen (Germany). When she immigrated to Canada in 1960 she worked as a nurse at Princess Margaret Hospital and Toronto General Hospital. She met the love of her life, Heinz and they married on June 1, 1963. They lived in Hamilton where they started their family, and subsequently purchased a farm in Wellington County in 1972. Edith worked together with Heinz from one season to another in order to have a successful family farm. Mom was a strong, generous woman who always had a kind word for everyone. She devoted her life to her family and always put others ahead of herself. Mom had a remarkable memory for names and dates. She was the first to call family, friends and neighbours to congratulate them on their special day. She enjoyed the simple things in life – spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Sunday afternoon drives throughout the countryside, taking walks to the hut in the back 50 and watching the birds come to the feeder during the winter months. At Edith’s request, a private family service will take place. As an expression of sympathy the family would appreciate memorial donations to your local Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. Interment at Lauderbach Cemetery, Normanby Township, Grey County.
