Community exceeds match-challenge goal of $300,000 for Groves hospital

ABOYNE – Lori Arsenault can’t quite believe the generosity of the community, but she’s getting used to it after two banner years in 2024 and 2025.

Not only did an anonymous donor come forward and give $1 million to the Groves Hospital Foundation’s CT scanner campaign in 2024, a second donor offered to match donations made to the foundation in December 2025 up to $300,000.

In both cases, the community stepped up and filled the gap.

“This is a very generous community,” said Arsenault, executive director of hospital’s fundraising foundation.

From Dec. 8 to 31, the community exceeded the $300,000 matching limit, bringing the foundation closer to its $2.7 million fundraising goal.

“It was truly heartwarming to see our community rally together,” Arsenault stated in a press release.

“We saw an exciting surge of donations to the ‘Match’ and positive dialogue about holiday giving in general.”

She added, “The donor created such an inspirational call to action for the community, and its response was nothing short of amazing. In just over three weeks, well over $300,000 was raised and has been matched by the donor.

“This will go a long way to meeting the vital annual needs of Groves hospital.”

Arsenault said every year in April the foundation asks the various hospital departments for a list of items that need to be repaired, replaced or upgraded.

The 2025-26 funding request is for $2.7 million  for infrastructure/building repairs and upgrades, technological tools and new/ replacement equipment items across the five-year-old hospital facility.

These are costs that are not covered by government funding.

The largest item on the 2025-26 equipment list is a new nursing call system for the entire facility, at a cost of $500,430.

“Together, you have made a tremendous difference in our ability to fund the equipment and technology our team needs to care for patients. Thank you!” Arsenault stated.
