COOK, Nancy Marlene

Suddenly at Hanover & District Hospital on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 after a short struggle with cancer in her 70th year. Beloved wife of Roger Cook of Neustadt. Treasured mother of Jennifer (Arnold) Quesnel of Harriston, Joanne (Ryan) Goode of Milton, and Erin (Phil) Stauffer of South River. Adored Grandma/Grammie to Cara (Nick), Justin (Courtney), Ewan, Liam, Sophie (Andrew), Maggie and Ryder. Survived by sisters Betty (Bob) Longeway of Stratford, Ruth Dores of Paris, and Barb (Roy) Tarrant of Newtown, NL, mother-in-law Dorothy Cook, Roger’s siblings, Rod (Lesa) of Holstein, Roxanne (Shawn) Beale of West Luther, and Rhonda (Thomas) Hopkins of Guelph, along with cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to name. Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Elaine (Motchman) McEllistrum of New Hamburg, siblings Mary Fishback, Joan Spelker and Don McEllistrum, along with brother-in-law Frank Dores and father-in-law Karl Cook. Nancy was so very proud of her daughters and her grandchildren. She loved going for a drive, a good burger, especially a stop at Weber’s on the way up Highway 11, and a hot cup of tea. She was highly intelligent with a ready wit and a mischievous sense of humour. She enjoyed a lively conversation, a good pun, great music and rollerskating. Nancy suffered from migraines and chronic exhaustion all her adult life. She often wondered what it would be like to have the energy of a normal person and a body that didn’t seem to hate you. In 2023, she was diagnosed with colitis and, most recently, cancer. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Hanover & District Hospital and Grey County Paramedics who helped Nancy through her final day – your compassion and caring for her was just overwhelming. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at New Hamburg Cemetery. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to England Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation, the Walkerton and District Hospital Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
