ABOYNE – Good deeds abound during the holidays and Groves Hospital Foundation officials say they have received an exciting surprise.
An anonymous donor visited the office and made an “astounding” pledge to match all donations to the hospital from Dec. 8 to 31, up to a total of $300,000, foundation officials stated.
Board chair Dr. Keegan Quadros said foundation members were “overjoyed” by the offer.
“With the rising costs of equipment and technology, this will really go a long way to helping us meet the needs of [the hospital] this year,” he said.
Groves Hospital Foundation fundraises annually to meet the ongoing needs of Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
This year’s funding request totals $2.7 million for infrastructure/building repairs and upgrades, technological tools, and new and replacement equipment items across the hospital. These costs are not covered by government funding.
The largest item on the 2025-26 equipment list is a new nursing call system for the entire facility, at a cost of $500,430.
Foundation executive director Lori Arsenault thanked the anonymous donor and hoped the community, already in a giving spirit, would take advantage of the offer.
“Now, with our match challenge, we are hoping that the community rises to the challenge and brings us closer to meeting the growing needs of Groves,” she said.
“Support from our donors is truly what is keeping our staff and physicians well-equipped and able to treat our patients, close to home.”
The match challenge runs until Dec. 31 and all donors will receive a tax receipt. Donations post-marked before Dec. 31 will be counted.
