FERGUS – Despite the snow and sub-zero temperatures that have come early this year, work on St. David Street North in Fergus is still expected to be completed by Christmas.
“The project is set to open on schedule (before Christmas),” township spokesperson Kendra Martin emailed in response to an Advertiser enquiry.
St. David Street North, also Highway 6, required a full reconstruction, including replacing watermains and sanitary sewers, modifications to the storm sewers, and full road and sidewalk replacement.
Separated bike lanes were also installed, plus a new pedestrian crosswalk at St. George Street.
Phase one, from St. Andrew Street to Garafraxa Street, was completed last year.
Phase two, from Garafraxa to Edinburgh Avenue commenced this spring. Surface asphalt and pavement markings will be completed in spring of 2026.
Benches, decorative streetlights and new trees will also be installed in the spring.
The total cost of the project is $9.25 million.
The township received a provincial Connecting Links grant of $2.85 million.
