DRAYTON – On Nov. 1, Wellington Junior Farmers hosted their Annual Community Supper at Drayton Reformed Church.
They served roast beef, potatoes, vegetables, apple crisp and were able to sell 61 dinners.
Thanks to their members, patrons and the donations from Floradale Feed Mill, and Conestogo Agri Systems Ltd., they were able to donate $850 split between four local food banks.
The group also collected actual food donations and donated those to the Drayton Food Bank.
Wellington Junior Farmers invite any youth between the ages of 15 and 29 to come join the club.
It has been declining in membership for the past few years, and the group hopes to pass the club over to a new set of members to keep this program going in the county.
Each member can be involved as much as they want, and there are many opportunities to get involved in at the club level, provincially or even internationally.
A big membership draw is the international exchanges, officials say.
Two Wellington members traveled to Wales for two weeks in 2019, staying with four host families, toured several farms, visited tourist attractions, hiked one of the tallest mountains in Wales and attended the Royal Welsh Show.
Most club members like to compete at provincial events held throughout the year – the next being the winter games.
The group also travels to compete against the other junior famers.
