GUELPH – Guelph General Hospital is receiving $3.36 million from the Ontario Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) to address its cooling system.
The one-time capital funding will be used to replace aging chillers and pumps which provide optimal temperature and humidity control throughout the facility. The new system is expected to use 30 per cent less energy, according to a hospital press release.
“We are grateful to the province for their ongoing support,” states vice president of finance and chief information officer Gavin Webb.
“While we plan for a new hospital in Guelph, we need to be able to deliver on our commitment for high-quality care now in a safe environment. This funding will help us address some of our more immediate needs,”
The hospital has strategically scheduled work to be completed during non-peak seasons (heating in the summer and cooling in the winter) to ensure there is no impact for patients, visitors, or staff, the release states.
More details will be shared as this work progresses and any impacts it may have on parking or access to the hospital.
Guelph General Hospital is one of hundreds of hospitals and community health care facilities to benefit from the investment the government is making in critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs through HIRF and the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund (CIRF) this year.
