It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Evelyn Elizabeth Jackson on Friday, November 21, 2025, at her home in Fergus, surrounded by her family. She was 80 years old. Joanne was born on July 21, 1945 in Truro Nova Scotia, and over her eight decades, she became the beloved heart and cornerstone of her extensive family. She had a wonderful and memorable career and possessed a unique gift for fostering harmony and connection among everyone. Joanne was particularly proud of her family’s historical connection to Alexander Graham Bell. Her grandfather, James Dunlop, donated the land on which the Alexander Graham Bell Museum stands today. In addition, the very first trans Atlantic telegraph was received at her grandfather’s hotel, the Telegraph House, which continues to operate under the family in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. An accomplished athlete in her youth, Joanne competed in diving and basketball during her school years and was awarded a university scholarship in basketball. She spent her summers working as a lifeguard at the beach in Baddeck, enjoying the vibrant community and the beauty of Nova Scotia’s coastline. Joanne is survived by her loving spouse of 41 years, Bonnie. Their enduring partnership was a source of strength and joy. She was a devoted and amazing parent and spouse, upholding strong family values that she instilled in her children: Cathleen (Tony), Angus (Chrissy), and Craig (Kristy). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Carter, Amanda (Kevin), Sadie, Regan, Miles, Austin, Will, Caitlyn, Kylie, and Ayden. Joanne will be greatly missed by her siblings: Judy, Celeste (Ray), and Lloyd (Glynnis), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. A fiercely dedicated family person, Joanne was an avid spectator of sports, with a particular passion for watching curling. Joanne is predeceased by parents, Austin and Geraldine; Bonnie’s son Ricky; grandson Riley; brother Graham; sister-in-law Karen; brother-in-law Phil; and daughter-in-law Heidi. A visitation will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:30am. A service celebrating Joanne’s life will follow in the chapel at 11:30am. A reception for fellowship and refreshments will be held immediately afterward upstairs in the Wellington Room. Elevator access is available. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated and lovingly requested in Joanne’s memory to support either the vital work of the Canadian Cancer Society or the local Centre Wellington Food Bank.
