She was a true salt of the earth. She embodied kindness, honesty, and resilience. She prided herself on being independent, fair, and loyal. But most of all, she was the epitome of bravery and strength. A warrior. With overwhelming sadness, the deepest love, and the inner strength that she would demand of us, the family of Sharon Tangney (nee Mulhall) announces her passing at the age of 72 after a valiant fight against cancer. This came 25 years after Sharon battled a rare terminal cancer and won. Sharon will be forever remembered and celebrated by her beloved husband of 52 years, Kevin Tangney and three children, daughter Shelley Tangney (son in-law John Parras), son Greg Tangney, and son Brian Tangney (daughter in-law Brooke Tangney). Sharon was the fiercely proud grandmother of Reeve, Tiana, Lola, Braeve, and Byron. Predeceased by her father Wilfred Mulhall, mother Mary Mulhall (nee Curtis) and sister Patricia Small (late Bob Small). Survived by her siblings, James Mulhall, Linda Osborne (Steve Osborne), David Mulhall (Theresa Newland), Dan Mulhall (Norma Mulhall), Cathy Dobbie (Garry Dobbie), Peter Mulhall (Marsha Morton) and Joanie Nemes. Also survived by her in-laws Jim Tangney (Patricia Tangney), Tom Tangney (Margaret Mary Tangney), Alan Tangney (Penny Tangney), Cheryl Allen (Wayne Allen), Stephen Tangney (Angela Alaimo), Mary Beth Heffernan (Pat Heffernan), Chris Tangney, Carolyn Henderson (Paul Henderson). Sharon, the oldest of nine children, was born in Guelph, Ont. on March 14, 1953. She grew up in West Luther on a farm before her parents moved their family to the town of Arthur when she was 14. She had lasting memories of attending Arthur District High School. She had many hobbies and passions, but perennial gardening and quilting were her greatest trademarks. On Dec 8, 1973, Sharon married Kevin Tangney of Kenilworth, Ont. On Dec 8 of this year, they would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Sharon had countless friendships over the years, many of them spanning decades. She was immensely proud of her two “girl groups” with whom she never missed “girl weekends” every year. Several of her friendships blossomed in high school and were a source of peace and joy during her last days. Sharon and Kevin raised their children in Fergus, Ont. In 2021, after retirement, they moved to North Bay, a town they fell in love with because of the community of kind and like-minded next-door neighbours that surrounded them. It was Sharon’s passionate wish that family and friends gather to celebrate her life rather than mourn her passing with a funeral service. It is in her honour that we invite you to join us: Sunday, Nov 23 at the Fergus Legion, 500 Blair St, Fergus, Ont. 12:00 – 1:00pm – receiving line, 1:00 – 2:30pm – light lunch, 2:30 – 4:30pm – speeches and drop-in reception. Our family wishes to extend eternal gratitude to the exceptional team at Nippissing Serenity Hospice who cared for all of us at the end. In lieu of flowers, Sharon asked us, to ask all of you, to please consider a donation in her name. nipissingserenityhospice.ca
