Overnight parking ban in effect Nov. 1

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The township is reminding residents of overnight parking restrictions, which came into effect Nov. 1, and remain in place until March 31, 2026.

There is no parking on all public roadways between 2am and 6am.

The parking restrictions ensure the safe, effective, and efficient removal of snow on local roads, making township streets safer and more accessible, officials state in a press release.

Downtown residents who don’t have access to overnight parking can park in any of the municipal lots overnight, but parking is limited to 24 hours.

Vehicles are permitted to be parked on the paved portion of the lower driveway apron, provided the vehicles comply with certain conditions.

However, to maintain safe sight lines for drivers and to not interfere with winter operations, the vehicle must be at least 1.5 meters back from the sidewalk and at least 1.5 meters back from the roadway.

Vehicles not parked in accordance with the following conditions are subject to tickets and/or towing.

To park on the lower driveway apron, the following regulations must be followed:

 – vehicles must be on the paved, driveway portion of the lower driveway apron, not the landscaped (or hardscaped) portion of the lower driveway apron;

– vehicles may not access the paved portion of the lower driveway apron by driving over the landscaped or hardscaped portions of the lower driveway apron;

– all of the vehicle’s tires must be on the paved, hard-surface of the lower driveway apron;

– there can be no overhang of any part of the vehicle onto the sidewalk so as to impede pedestrian traffic or onto the roadway so as to obstruct vehicular traffic; and

– vehicles parked parallel to the road must be facing the direction of travel.

 You cannot park on the lower driveway apron:

– if your driveway is connected to your neighbour’s driveway. Do not park your vehicle in a way that crosses the property line; and

– do not park on the lower driveway apron if your driveway is within 15 metres of an intersection.

The Alpha Enforcement Team has been retained to monitor on-street parking and ticket those parked on the streets between 2 and 6am.
