ST. JACOBS – The Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy has announced youth chorus auditions for its production of Dear Evan Hansen.
The first round of auditions will be through self-tape submissions, due by Nov. 14, with in-person callbacks scheduled for Nov. 23.
The show will be on stage this March at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse in Waterloo.
“We’re so excited to be including local teenagers as we share a story that is so relevant to them,” said David Connolly, director/choreographer and artistic director of Drayton Entertainment.
“Dear Evan Hansen explores the need, especially for young people, for connection in today’s fast-paced society and the idea that everyone deserves to feel seen and valued.
“We’re thrilled to welcome voices of the next generation.”
Aspiring young performers ages 14 and 15 are encouraged to submit an audition.
Singing and acting experience are an asset and preferred.
Hopefuls are asked to submit a self-tape using the provided audition materials available on the online registration page.
For more information or to submit a self-tape visit draytonentertainmentyouthacademy.com/auditions.
“The youth chorus will offer 100% barrier-free access to unite youth from different backgrounds, identities, cultures, abilities, and interests, completely free of charge,” officials stated in a press release.
To provide opportunities for as many youth as possible, the chosen performers will be divided into teams and will perform in the youth chorus on a rotating schedule with professional actors in the lead roles.
Rehearsals for Dear Evan Hansen will begin Feb. 22. The production will run from March 18 to April 12.
Youth cast must attend all rehearsals and performances assigned to their team.
Dear Even Hansen
All his life, anxious and lonely teenager Evan Hansen has felt invisible. But when a tragic event shocks the community and thrusts him into the centre of a controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to finally be somebody else.
As Evan struggles with the consequences of becoming entangled in a lie about the circumstances of a troubled classmate’s death, he and those around him grapple with themes of loneliness, connection, mental health, depression, addiction, suicide, family dysfunction and the potentially dangerous impact of social media.
