KATERBERG, Henk

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 17 in his 90th year. He is now rejoicing with his Saviour, Jesus Christ. Beloved husband of 20 years to Alie. Loved father of Carrie (Jim) Gordon, John (Sharon), Aldeana (Robert) Dallman, Bernice (Bill) deVries, Henry (Michelle), Pete (Rosanne), Dave (Christine), and Jeff (Lisa). Cherished grandfather of 38 grandchildren and spouses, and 59 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Janet (Clarence) Wolters and Margo (Gilbert) Van Sligtenhorst. Predeceased by his first wife, Tressa (nee Donkersgoed), parents Jans Tinus and Alberdina Katerberg, and brother Albert (Sienie). Born in the Netherlands in 1936, Henk’s early life was marked by both hardship and resilience. At just six years old, he lost his father—a pivotal moment that would shape the course of his life. Seeking new opportunities, Henk immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 with his mother and three siblings. Upon settling in Guelph, Ontario, Henk began working in the construction industry, which soon led him to establish Katerberg Construction Ltd., a company specializing in custom-built homes. In 1958, Henk married Tressa Donkersgoed and together they raised eight children. Their 46-year marriage was filled with shared joys and deep faith. In 2004, after a brief illness, Tressa passed away. In 2005, Henk found companionship once again and married Alie Veldman, gaining four bonus children, Debbie (José) Gonzalez, Corina (Luke) Sipkes, Erik (Elisabeth), Natasha (David) Marx and more grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1969, Henk had a spiritual encounter which compelled him to enter full-time ministry. His passion for sharing the Gospel and serving others led to the founding of Elora Road Christian Fellowship, a vibrant faith community that has continued to this day. Henk will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a man of deep conviction. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Elora Road Christian Fellowship, 5696 Wellington Road 7, Guelph, Ontario on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4–6pm and 7–9pm. A private family interment will precede the visitation. A Celebration of Life service will follow at the church on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 3pm. Guests are invited to the reception hall for fellowship and refreshments immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elora Road Christian School.
