It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Drijber, who left us on September 24, 2025, at the age of 68. Born in Ontario and raised in Rockwood, Rick lived a life full of adventure, laughter, and courage. He dedicated more than 28 years of his life to the mining industry, working as an instructor and mentor at two of the world’s largest multinational mining corporations – Rio Tinto and BHP. His expertise and generosity in sharing knowledge impacted countless colleagues and left a lasting legacy. Rick’s true passions were found far beyond work – in cars, racing, NASCAR, and music. He had an incredible zest for life. He was a free spirit who loved speed, lived boldly, and seemed to have nine lives – surviving challenges and coming back stronger every time. What made Rick truly unforgettable was his golden heart. He had a natural kindness that drew people in and a genuine love for making others happy. Rick was a helper by nature – always there to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer comfort. He was a caring soul and a people-pleaser in the best way, always putting others before himself and lighting up every room he entered. Rick will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Homeyra, his children Ryan (Lana), Rebecca, and his stepchildren Ala and Yasi, along with his treasured grandchildren Atlin and Van. He is predeceased by his parents, Sytske and Oscar, and his sister Marian, and is lovingly remembered by his brothers Cary, Rudy, Robin, and Philip. Rick’s life was one of laughter, adventure, generosity, and love – the kind that leaves a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. He was funny, daring, full of heart, and lived life to the fullest, twice over (and maybe more, like a cat). Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Tranquility Burial Services Inc. A private family interment will take place. A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man who brought so much joy to everyone he met. The family warmly invites all who knew and loved Rick to join them in honouring his remarkable life and spirit.
“Rick, you were my heart, my home, and my greatest adventure. You taught me how to laugh louder, love deeper, and live braver. Your kindness and golden heart touched everyone you met – you made the world softer and brighter just by being in it. You will always be my one true love, and though I will miss you every single day, your spirit will be with me –fast, free, & forever.” – Homeyra
