MORRIS, Eleanor Marie (née Mayne)

July 6, 1950 - September 19, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eleanor Morris, 75, who died at home on September 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with Bulbar ALS. Beloved wife of John Morris for 53 cherished years. Mom to Vincent Morris (Ali), Stephen Morris, Colleen Dunbrack (Andrew) and Cara Tegler (Adrian). Eleanor was a devoted grandmother to Mica, Quinn, Leo, Jacob, David, Xavier, Everett, and Meredith. Eleanor was a loving big sister to her brothers Vince Mayne and Chris Mayne (Rose), and sisters Marilyn Bridge (Wayne), Joan Keeling (Pete), and Maureen Mayne (Scott Campbell). She is predeceased by her siblings, Paul, Thomas (Jackie), and Phyllis Mayne; her sister-in-law, Karen; and by her beloved parents, Joseph and Elaine Mayne. Eleanor’s caring spirit was evident throughout her life. As a registered nurse and a proud graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Kitchener, she dedicated many years to the healthcare profession, retiring as the Director of Care at Wellington Terrace. She was honoured as one of the first recipients of the Florence Nightingale Award. Her warmth and care touched countless lives. As the matriarch of the family, Eleanor was the heart that brought everyone together to celebrate all occasions. Whether hosting Christmas gatherings, birthdays, bridal or baby showers for her many nieces and nephews, or dinner parties with friends. She did it all with a thoughtful touch of love and care, often shared with her beloved friend Anita Stewart. Together, they brought joy to so many. Elora was a very special place to Eleanor, where she built many lasting friendships and was blessed with a wonderful community of friends. She loved spending time in the Elora Gorge Park, attending Riverfest, supporting local shops and restaurants, and, of course, enjoying the Elora Festival. A gifted cook and baker, Eleanor was known for the love she poured into every dish. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, where Friday night pizza for decades became a beloved family tradition, one that continues to this day. Eleanor created a home that was open to all. One that was always filled with warmth, laughter, music and delicious food. We all carry special memories of those moments shared together. Beyond the kitchen, Eleanor loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed long walks with Lily, gardening, camping, and skiing. She also loved knitting and sewing with her quilting friends, making honey, a favourite of John’s and crafting special blankets and sweaters for her loved ones. Eleanor’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She cared deeply for so many, and her love touched everyone she met. She will be missed dearly. It’s difficult to put into words just how special Eleanor made everyone feel. Visitation will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 1:30 to 3:30pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Immaculate Church in Elora on Friday, September 26th at 11:00am, followed by interment at St. Mary Immaculate and St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. All are invited to a reception afterward for refreshments and fellowship. The family kindly requests that donations be made to The Elora Festival or ALS Canada in Eleanor’s memory. Eleanor will be deeply missed by all who loved her, but her spirit and the memories she created will forever remain in our hearts. Please visit www.grahamgiddyfh.com for Eleanor’s online memorial.
