Wellington North sells small plot of land in Mount Forest

KENILWORTH – The township of Wellington North will add $2,000 to its coffers after selling a small strip of land in Mount Forest.

Darryl Kuepfer, the owner of a property adjacent to the land (444 Newfoundland St., Mount Forest), contacted Wellington North in May, asking to purchase it.

Kuepfer told the municipality he plans for fourplex tenants on the property to use the greenspace, which is 0.04 acres with about seven feet of frontage on Newfoundland Street.

During a regular meeting of council on Aug. 25, council voted to declare the land “surplus to their needs” and authorized the mayor and clerk to enter into an agreement for the sale of the property.

The road/lane on the strip of land will be permanently closed.

“The subject property is an irregularly shaped parcel of vacant land, which is located between two parcels of land on which residential improvements are located,” stated a report about the sale.

“Staff have been in contact with the owners of the adjoining property at 434 Newfoundland Street and all owners are in agreement with this purchase and have stated that they have no interest in purchasing the strip of land.
