HEWSON, Brenda Elaine

July 4, 1940 - August 27, 2025

Brenda Hewson passed away on August 27th, in her 85th year, with her family by her side. Brenda was the loving mother to Laura (Ron) and Patti. Special Mama to Megan, Sam (Dave), George, John and Jacob. She was special Great-Mama to Layne, Olivia, Jefferson, Amelia and Gilbert. Known as special Great-Grandma to Maxine and Johnny. Brenda will be missed by her Aunt Dawna Reeves, nieces Tammy and Tiffany, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends and family of spouse Jerry. Brenda is predeceased by her spouse Jerry, parents Jack and Millie, son Peter, sister Linda and special friend Orville. Over the years, Brenda spent much time travelling with her husband Jerry. Over the past fifteen years, many wonderful memories were made spending the winter in Daytona Beach, Florida. Over their life they took cruises and visited many places which also bode many memories- Arizona, Jamaica and Aruba were some favourites. Brenda was very proud of her grandchildren. She especially found joy in spending time with her great-grandchildren Olivia, Maxine, Johnny and Gilbert. She looked forward to second-hand store shopping, hearing about makeup and fashion favourites and looking through all of her jewelry with Olivia. Listening to all of Maxine’s bubbly chatter (known as Grandma to Maxine, of course) and hearing of her adventures was something she would always fondly speak of. She very much enjoyed when Johnny would come visit and promptly take over her room with his energetic personality. She loved video chats with the kids, looking at pictures of what they were doing and cherished their creativity. Mama always kept a drawer (or two) full of goodies for the grandkids to explore, which they all have fond memories of. She would save all sorts of ribbons, papers, toilet paper rolls, tape and art supplies for the kids to craft and play with and loved watching what they created. Brenda enjoyed going swimming, crocheting, cards, reading and playing BINGO. Brenda always looked forward to Jennifer coming from the Fergus Library to bring her a collection of books to read. Brenda spent many years volunteering at Meals on Wheels in Guelph, the Guelph Food Bank and the Blood Donor Clinic in Guelph. While living at Heritage River, she helped to organize and sew together crocheted and knitted squares from co-residents to make blankets for several animal rescues and lap blankets for the Wellington Terrace. Mama/ Grandma- we love you and will miss you so much. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Groves Memorial Hospital. Dr. Beamish and Dr. Incitti; your compassion and kindness did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated. We would also like to thank the entire team at Heritage River Retirement Home for their care over the past five years- she very much valued the companionship from both team members and fellow residents. As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations being directed to the Centre Wellington Food Bank. Visit https://www.grahamgiddyfh.com for Brenda’s online memorial.
