OFA leaders discuss issues with Liberal agriculture critic

ONTARIO – This week, the OFA welcomed MPP Ted Hsu, the Ontario Liberals Agriculture Critic, to its headquarters in Guelph.

Conversations between OFA leaders and Hsu focused on opportunities in the agri-food sector for growth, local food, access to skilled labour, and getting shelf space at major retailers for farm products.

“We spent time discussing how to engage urban-based MPPs and staff members to help expand their knowledge on farming and issues we face,” said OFA president Drew Spoelstra in a press release.

“We appreciate the visit from MPP Hsu and his efforts to take the time to tour a modern dairy farm, pork operation, and the Ontario veterinary college.”

Another big concern discussed was road safety for farm equipment—making sure vehicles are safe on the road without overburdensome regulations getting in the way. The OFA is always happy to work with politicians from all parties to make sure they understand the issues facing farmers and the agri-food sector when shaping policy.
