Lace up for a cause: annual Parkinson’s walk is slated for Sept. 6 at Fergus sportsplex

FERGUS – Neighbours, families, and teams across Wellington-Dufferin will gather at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex on Sept. 6 for the annual Walk for Parkinson’s.

Hosted by Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario (PSSO), the Walk for Parkinson’s is the region’s largest community fundraiser supporting people living with Parkinson’s and their families.

Every dollar raised stays local, funding programs like support groups, counselling, exercise classes, and education across southwestern Ontario, officials say.

This year’s walks take place on Sept. 6 and 7 at 14 locations in the region. The Wellington-Dufferin walk is Sept. 6 at the Fergus Sportsplex. Registration is at 10am; the walk starts at 11am.

Last year approximately 78 participants and volunteers helped raise $43,365 at the local walk.

The Wellington-Dufferin walk, which started in Orangeville in 2012 and later moved to Fergus, has raised approximately $250,000.

There are many ways to support the walk. People can register as individuals or teams. Volunteers are also needed on walk day.

Those who can’t attend can still make donations.
