Scottish Festival, Highland Games in Fergus this weekend

FERGUS – This weekend, the Fergus Scottish Festival will open its gates for the 80th time, welcoming guests from around the world.

Organizers say they’ve “curated an experience that all can enjoy, Scot or not.” 

The festival will take place at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus from  Aug. 8 to 10. 

Entertainment and special guests include:  

– Outlander star Charles Vandervaart;

– Tattoo’d in Tradition ceremony;

– fireworks; 

– Scottish Saturday Night Concert with Albannach, Red Hot Chilli Pipers and the Bay City Rollers; 

– Whisky Village; 

– massed bands; 

– Highland cows in the Heritage Village; 

– Scottish heritage at the genealogy tent; 

– heavy events; 

– highland dance; 

– pipes and drums competitors; 

– Highland Pub; and 

– clans and heritage. 

“This is a special year and in true Fergus Scottish Festival fashion, we are celebrating our 80th anniversary in a big way,” executive director Elizabeth Bender stated in a press release. 

“We will be presenting the same amazing festival, but with added 80th anniversary competitions, even more special guests and of course our Scottish Saturday Night celebration. 

“Gates open and the excitement begins at 5pm on Friday, Aug. 8.”
