Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance compete in Ottawa

OTTAWA – From July 5 to 9, dancers from the Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance competed at the Scotdance Canada Canadian Championships in Ottawa. There were 13 dancers from the studio who participated in the competition, which saw over 1,000 dancers from across North America.

On the first day of competition in the beginner 9 years category, Isley Sy-Green placed third in trophy fling, third in sword, and fifth in fling. In the beginner 11 and under 14 years category, Ziva Sobol placed sixth in sword, and tenth in trophy fling. In the novice 11 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed sixth in trophy fling, eighth in sword and Seann Truibhas and ninth in fling.

 In the novice 12 and under 14 years category, Cayley Simpson placed fifth in trophy fling, fourth in Seann Truibhas, sixth in fling, and eighth in sword. 

On the second day of competition in the beginner 9 years category, Isley Sy-Green placed ninth in reel and tenth in lilt. In the novice 10 years category, Harlyn Heathers placed eight in flora. 

In the novice 11 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed eight in flora. In the Novice 12 and under 14 years, Cayley Simpson placed fifth in flora and sixth in reel. Finally, in the intermediate 14 and under 16 years, Brooke Bailey placed seventh in reel.

Earlier this summer prior to nationals, dancers from the studio competed at the Georgetown Highland Games. In the beginner 10 and under 12 years category, Hazel McAlister placed fourth in lilt, fifth in fling, and sixth in sword; and Ziva Sobol placed third in fling, fifth in sword, and sixth in lilt and Seann Truibhas. In the novice 10 and under 12 years, Scarlett placed eight in sword. In the Novice 12 years and over category, Cayley Simpson placed third in sword, Gabby Jackson placed seventh in Seann Truibhas, and Maribelle McBroom placed eighth in lilt. 

Following nationals the dancers quickly turned around to attend the Cambridge Highland Games. In the primary 4 and under 6 years category, Finleigh MacLeod placed fourth in Pas de Basques and Pas de Basque and High-cuts. In beginner 11 years and over category, Ziva Sobol placed fifth in flora. In the novice 10 and under 12 years category, Harlyn Heathers placed fourth in lilt, fifth in flora, and sixth in Seann Truibhas. 

 The dancers are now readying to compete at the Fergus Scottish Festival in August.
