Ed Benjamins appointed to committee of adjustment

MAPLETON – Council here has appointed Ed Benjamins as the replacement member of the township’s committee of adjustment.

The committee’s purview includes matters related to the Planning Act, property standards, and “fence viewer” duties, according to a township report.

A position on the committee was left vacant in November when councillor Lori Woodham was appointed councillor after former councillor Martin Tamlyn resigned to take a staff position.

Information about the vacant position and application process were published in the Advertiser on June 5.

The application was open to eligible Mapleton voters to submit a one-page background letter and participate in a “follow-up phone conversation” and a full day of mandatory online training.

According to Mapleton staff, “three competent and accomplished citizens” submitted applications.

Mayor Gregg Davison selected Benjamins to fill the role.

Benjamins was formerly chair of Mapleton’s Environmental Stewardship Committee.

His training, which was about minimum distance separation, took place on June 12 and was provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness.

The committee also includes Dennis Cuomo, Jeff Duimering, Peg Schieck, Robert Stanners and Larry Wheeler.
