Coalition celebrates $121,500 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant

GUELPH – The Guelph Community Health Centre (GCHC) has received a $121,500 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillum Foundation (OTF).

The Community Resilience Coalition of Guelph and Wellington (CRCGW) celebrated the funding on June 18 with invited guests including Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner.

The funding enabled the completion of two projects used to strengthen community resilience, officials say.

“Our local agencies work hard to help those in need improve well-being and build resilience,” they stated. “This grant will help more partners in Guelph receive training so they too can support young people and families.”

The GCHC launched online training to support community resilience, and to create a strategic plan for the coalition.

The Community Resilience Core Training is  designed for people working in health, social services, education and community.

It uses a social enterprise model to support community resilience and fund the coalition’s ongoing work, and is available for a small fee to anyone in any community.

“As a community, we have a shared responsibility, and opportunity, to promote positive childhood experiences that support healthy development, positive mental health, and resilience,” stated GCHC CEO Melissa Kwiatkowski.

“We are so grateful to the [OTF] for this vital support that allows us to sustain our work for a stronger, more resilient community.”

“Communities are stronger and more vibrant when children, youth, and adults are supported, especially in the face of adversity,” officials state.

The CRCGW is a group of community partners promoting resilience by fostering positive experiences for children and youth and preventing and reducing the effects of adversity, officials say.

“Guelph Community Health Centre envisions a community without barriers to health and well-being, officials stated. “We work with our community to promote and sustain health and well-being for all.”

“The Community Resilience Coalition envisions a resilient community that prevents and reduces the effects of early adversity. Together, we advance shared understanding and take action to strengthen resilience.”
