Learn ‘how to live’

Dear Editor:

Premier Doug Ford’s comment on June 18 that First Nations “can not keep running to government, cap in hand” is most unfortunate.

The First Nations of this country have been nothing short of “great neighbours” to the new coming settlers. As far back as the first arrivals, the First Nations have saved the settlers’ lives, by showing them how to live in this place – how to find food, stay healthy, get medicine, build appropriate lodging, and the list goes on.

The agreement was to live in harmony with each other but the governments did not let that arrangement last too long. Once they saw the economics, the First Nations were now a problem and the settler governments have been trying to get rid of the First Nations ever since. So when we talk about “cap in hand” I think it is once again the settlers (government) who are running to the First Nations and saying “get out of the way so I can help you.”

The governments have done this bullying long enough, not only to the First Nations but also to the elderly, children, unhoused, the specially gifted population and anyone else they feel is in their way of corporate control and may not be “in the best interest of the nation.”

I would like to see humane MPPs of the Conservative Party cross the floor, eliminate the majority government and then do some real work “in the interest of the nation,” like develop hope, honesty and faith for the future generations – not just the corporate clowns with the big pockets to be filled at everyone else’s expense.

First Nations are a great people with a conscience for humanity and the future of this land and its inhabitants. The settlers’ cities are crumbling and they need help, so listen to the First Nations and you will learn once again how to live.
