After living with dementia for the last several years Marlene passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at the Royal Terrace Nursing Home on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at the age of 85. Devoted mother to her daughter Karen and husband Randy Shantz of Drayton. A proud grandma of Micayla and Matthew Brubacher and Joel Shantz and Alexis Chapman. Great grandma to Hudson Shantz and soon to be baby Brubacher. Marlene was the eldest sister to Ethel Hill, Donna and William Turner, Keith and Diane Hurlbut, Larry and Melody Hurlbut, Reta and George Barnett and Dale Hurlbut. Sister-in-law of Lela Carley. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Gordon Carley, son Kevin Carley and parents Alvin and Evelyn Hurlbut. Marlene was an independent, hard-working woman who from a very young age, cared for everyone around. She was a woman of strong faith, active in her church and community. Spending time with those she loved brought her much joy. Later in life she enjoyed taking bus trips, walking, biking and spending time outdoors. To honour Marlene’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held in the Palmerston Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donation to Community Mennonite Fellowship, Drayton or the Royal Terrace Resident’s Council would be appreciated by the family. Marlene and her family want to thank the friends and family, especially her family at the Royal Terrace for their support and love over the years, providing excellent care for her.
