Raleway Festival makes its way along the tracks

PALMERSTON – The fourth annual Raleway Festival is chugging along the Palmerston tracks and will be arriving on June 21 for a celebration of rails and ales.

The community-led initiative All Aboard Palmerston collaborated with the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum to bring a new demographic to the “picturesque and heritage-rich” museum.

The event will take place from 12 to 4pm at 164 William St., Palmerston.

“Once again we are welcoming back local breweries, wineries, cideries [and] distilleries to showcase samples of their best product,” stated town director of economic and community development Belinda Wick-Graham.

Beverage vendors include Adam Brown 55 Distilling Co., Cox Creek Cellars, Wellington Brewery, Maclean’s Ales Inc., Neustadt Springs Brewery, Block 3 Brewing Co., Formosa Springs Brewing Company and Applebottom Orchards.

“It’s basically an opportunity to come down to the museum, enjoy some drinks, some food and good music,” Wick-Graham said.

The 19+ event will feature entertainment from Juanita and the Big Deal, along with inflatable games including axe throwing, basketball and archery.

“The money stays in the community with local vendors,” Wick-Graham explained.

She also noted funds raised goes to All Aboard Palmerston and the museum.

A tour through Wellington County’s “only original railway station” will also be available.

For the past few years, 400 to 500 guests attended the outdoor festival, which can be quite weather dependent.

“Last year it was crazy hot and the year before that it poured rain,” Wick-Graham said.

A call will be made 24 hours prior to the event if rain is forecasted – in that case everything will be moved into the Palmerston arena. Rain or shine, the beer will be pouring.

Admission in advance is $15 with a Raleway Festival Event Cup and $10 for admission only.

Officials state ticket prices will go up at the gate and they encourage guests to purchase in advance.
