Wellington County Museum and Archives to host annual Strawberry Festival

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) will host the second annual Strawberry Festival on June 21 from 12 to 4pm.

“Strawberry festivals have deep roots dating back to the late 1800s,” explained Mike McGill, museum programming assistant.

“Last year, thousands joined us to celebrate, and we’re expecting an even bigger turnout this year.”

County councillor Doug Breen emphasized the festival’s significance to the community, stating, “Wellington County is known for authentic local food experiences, from farm-to-table dining to on-farm activities.

“The Strawberry Festival beautifully honours the importance of local agriculture while supporting our farmers, bringing the community together, and showcasing what makes this region so special.”

The event celebrates the local bounty with many strawberry-themed treats, including strawberry shortcake.

Festival highlights include:

– a market featuring local artisan crafts and products;

– live entertainment throughout the afternoon;

– food zone with local food trucks; and

– interactive activities with crafts and educational stations for all ages.

A special feature will be the Teddy Bear Caper beginning at 1pm. Participants can compete to see which beloved Teddy bears are best dressed, smallest and largest, have the funniest name, are the best dancer, and more.

All are welcome to attend, and admission is by donation.

Attendees are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to fill at the water station outside of the archives and to use recycling stations throughout the event.
