ROCKWOOD – Guelph/Eramosa council approved a noise bylaw exception for the Great Lakes Medieval Tournament and Faire slated for July.
The event is set to take place at the Everton Scout camp July 11 and 12 and is expected to attract between 1,000 and 2,000 guests, according to a report to council.
Clerk Amanda Knight presented the report to council and spoke highly of the event and its organizers.
“They want to ensure this event is well-received in the township and by neighbouring property owners,” Knight said.
She noted organizers looked to be “doing their due diligence” as they will not allow street parking, and have confirmed the presence of security and on-site medical personnel.
Councillors seemed less concerned about the noise and more concerned about the issue of parking.
“I don’t have any problems with the noise bylaw exemption,” said councillor Mark Bouwmeester.
“But Everton is not designed for thousands of vehicles.”
He suggested using signs to ensure locals are aware of the event.
Mayor Chris White asked about the use of Facebook to ensure residents are kept up to date on the event.
“If we get the message out to the core people then the message will get there,” he said.
Council unanimously granted the noise bylaw exemption for the upcoming event.
