New volunteer program at Ignatius Jesuit Centre

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – The Ignatius Jesuit Centre, just north of Guelph on Highway 6, has started a new volunteer program and held two volunteer fairs last week.

The centre has always made use of volunteers, but this program is new, farm educator Lisa Conroy explained during the event on April 12.

Staff are hoping to match volunteers with their interests and skill, and are seeking volunteers to help in the following areas:

– fix it;

– gardens;

– hospitality and administration;

– community orchard;

– facilities and buildings;

– community gardens;

– land and trails; and

– conservation.

“So many people use the trails and walk their dogs here. So maybe they’d like to volunteer to monitor the trails if they’re already there,” she said. Those volunteers have a check list and notify staff if there is undue garbage, flooding, trees down and so on.

High school students looking for volunteers hours are welcome here too, she said.
