WELLINGTON COUNTY – As the snow clears and temperatures rise, there is a sense of urgency to get out of the house after the long winter.
For some older adults, this past winter was especially hard, and what better way to decompress than to get out in the community.
North Wellington
For those residing in northern Wellington County, the Seniors’ Centre for Excellence offers plenty of social and physical events to keep you out of the house.
For those looking for a more social setting, the centre hosts monthly dining events in Clifford, Harriston, and Palmerston. All dining events start at noon, with doors opening at 11:30am, and feature a home-cooked meal, dessert, coffee/tea and a guest speaker.
The Clifford dining events are held the last Wednesday of every month at Knox United Church, located at 11 Alan Street East.
The Harriston event is held the last Thursday of every month at the Harriston United Church, located at 57 Young Street West.
The Palmerston event takes place the third Wednesday of every month at the Palmerston United Church, located at 215 James Street.

The Seniors’ Centre for Excellence also hosts two coffee groups.
Drayton coffee hour is held the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Selah centre at 24 Wood St.
Moorefield coffee hour is held the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Maryborough Community Centre at 15 Ball Ave.
Coffee is served at both locations at 10:30am and participants are reminded to bring their own mug.

For those looking for something a little more physically demanding, Wellington North Township of is offering drop in pickleball games in both Arthur and Mount Forest.
The Arthur games will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3pm and 6 to 8pm, and Fridays from 1 to 3pm at the Arthur Curling Club, located at 160 Domville St.
The Mount Forest games will run Mondays and Fridays 9 to 11am, and Wednesdays 9 to 11am and 6 to 8pm at 320 King Street East.
Drop-in games are open to players of all levels and a full list of pickleball rules and etiquette can be found online at Wellington–north.com/community/programs.
Centre Wellington
For those residing in Centre Wellington, the Victoria Park Seniors Centre offers a wide range of drop in activities.
All activities listed below are $1 for members and $2 for non-members and are held at the centre, located at 150 Albert Street West in Fergus”
– art drop-in, Wednesdays at 1pm. Participants are invited to bring any art, craft or hobby;
– carpet bowlng, Fridays at 1pm;
– bocce, Wednesdays at 10am starting July 9;
– bridge, Thursdays at 1pm;
– colouring circle, Mondays at 1pm;
– creative writing, Wednesdays at 10:30am;
– cribbage, Fridays at 9:30am;
– crokinole, Wednesdays at 10am;
– darts, Thursdays at 9:30am;
– Wii bowling, Tuesdays at 1pm;

For those residing in Guelph/Eramosa, the Rockmosa Older Adults Centre (ROAC) will be offering a steady flow of drop-in events over the coming weeks.
All activities listed below will be held at the ROAC, located inside the Rockwood library:
– euchre, April 17 from 1 to 3pm (there is a $2 charge at the door);
– shuffleboard, April 22, 12:30 to 2:30pm for a fee of $2 at the door;
– Mah Jongg, April 22, 1 to 3pm, free of charge;
– darts, April 23, 1 to 3pm, free of charge;
– bid euchre and cribbage, April 23, 10am to 12pm for a fee of $2 at the door;
– euchre, April 24, 1 to 3pm for a fee of $2 at the door;
