Therapy Forest added to Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre

New trees – The Sunrise Therapy Forest official opened on Sept. 22. The goal of the therapy forest is to establish managed forest and meadow habitats at Sunrise Therapeutic Riding and Learning Centre, which would: enhance existing biodiversity through planting of native species, and provide new habitats and food sources for pollinators; and provide accessible natural spaces for innovative, inclusive programming for children and adults with disabilities, with a focus on fitness, wellness and nature appreciation. The goal is for the forest to include 20 acres of managed forests and meadows.

The forest will include riding trails, accessible walkways, memorial areas, program spaces, benches and accessible interpretive signage. The forest will be used for riding lesson activities, inclusive children’s nature and recreation programs, and accessible fitness / wellness activities for adults with disabilities. The forest will provide additional programming space for over 500 individuals presently participating in Sunrise’s day camps, Little BreechesClub, therapeutic riding lessons and life skills programs every year.
